THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING
If everything's connected, I want to be
the green of a leopard's eye. I want to be
a snowflake, among other snowflakes,
each unique, poised on the bareness
of a winter branch. I want to be
the glint of light on a summer wave,
a speck of salt in a tear of joy,
the giggle of a small boy playing
in a puddle of mud. I want to be
the space between notes in the intermezzo
of Mascagni’s opera, the fragrance
of lilac in the spring.
If everything's connected, I want to be
a striation of muscle in your beating heart.
